To τηλέφονό μου (My phone number)

Aside from talking about money, another important use of numbers is phone numbers.

Greek Pod 101 has a video that will allow you to practice a simple way of giving your phone number:

In the video, Mark gives his phone number using single digits:

έχι ενιά δύο μηδέν τρία τέσσερα πέντε εφτά μηδέν (6920034570)

A more natural way would be to break these numbers into groups:

εξήντα εννέα, διακόσια, τριάντα τέσσερα, πεντακόσια εβδομήντα (69-200-34-570).

CORRECTION: Take a look at the phone number in the second line of the dialogue on page 54 of the Ελληνικά Τώρα (Greek Now) 1+1. If your edition says 210-76-92-690, change the first 2 to a 0: 010-76-92-690 to reflect what is actually said in the audio file.

Now, listen to the audio file of Ole’s self-introduction on the Nostos website. Pay particular attention to how he reads out the phone number in line 2. See if you can mark where he breaks the number up using slashes. It’s okay if you have to listen a few times.

Ole says μηδέν, δεκα, εβδομήντα έξι, ενενήντα δύο, έξι, ενενήντα (0/10-76-92-6/90).

Write down your own phone number, and try breaking it down in a similar way to read aloud.

Now, try answering the questions in activity A, and complete the paragraph in activity B by writing about Ole from your own point of view.

For more practice, listen to the audio file that corresponds to activity 6 on page 13 of Λοιπόν, τι λες; (Well, what do you say?) and answer the questions.
